In the UK it is legal to be naked outdoors While nudity has never been illegal in the UK, not so long ago unless you were with an organised group to be seen walking naked alone in the countryside or on a beach would probably have lead to a visit from the police. Thanks to extensive lobbying by naturist groups you now have complete freedom to be naked almost anywhere. While the police are aware of this the majority of the public are not and wrongly assume it is illegal. While you may wish to enlighten any person who is not happy about your state of undress it is probably easier to put some clothes on until they are out of sight. There are a number of groups around the UK which go on regular hikes. Naturist walking groups are very open and easy to find. There is a Links page, but you can also search on-line. It is a fact that in any group of naturists women will be outnumbered by men - please do not let that put you off. To some degree there is safety in numbers when walking naked. While you should not ignore the reaction of any dressed people you might meet, in a group it is easier to pass by with a cheerful hello! One of the great things about walking in Scotland is the right to roam. Essentially as long as you don’t cause damage or worry animal you can walk just about anywhere in the countryside. Combining this with the new police guidelines means you can walk through a lot of beautiful countryside and do it naked. There are no official naturist beaches in our region. Helen, myself and guests have visited our local beaches and been seen naked there, but no one has complained. If you go to the beach please respect others at all times, there are plenty of rocky outcrops to ensure you cannot be seen if you prefer. Remember you are not doing anything illegal.
