Walk 3 - Garlieston / Eggerness

This walk is as long as you want it to be. Once through the drystone wall and into the wood there is about 1.5 miles of small beach after small beach to enjoy. The route is very easy starting with a wide pathway, but some of the beaches are difficult to access. There is about a 1 mile walk that needs to be done dressed from Garlieston around the bay and through the wood. You will see quite a lot of people walking the path. A few more may be walking through the woods as in the spring it is full of wild flowers. Once out of the wood you can get undressed. Coming out of the wood takes you into a large field. There is a faint pathway along the seaward side edge with trees on your right. The path goes through a gate in the drystone and into another wood. Do take care through the wood as it can get quite over grown with brambles in the Summer. Bay 1 - Turn right off the path here on the very rocky beach you will find a jumble of Mulberry Harbour test “beetles”. These are only visible (or accessible) at low tide. Garlieston Bay was a secret site for testing various structures for D-Day in June 1944. These steel and concrete floating pontoons (called Beetles) supported the roadways of the Mulberry Harbour. Following the path further into the wood you will find many more small beaches all different and worth exploring. Most of them are rocky, but some have a sand / shingle mix. Each one of them can be enjoyed naked. The path in the wood eventually leads you back into open farmland, as yet I have not been beyond the wood. It looks like following the coast further may take you close to farm buildings. Remember to get dressed before you enter the first wood again. Note - I have only done this walk twice, the next time I will identify the best of the beaches.
Across the bay - the route follows the headland
